Lesson 2: True False Not Given
In the IELTS Reading section, True False Not Given (TFNG) questions are a common type of question that requires test-takers to carefully read and analyze a passage. In this type of question, test-takers are presented with a statement and must determine whether the statement is true, false, or cannot be determined based on the information in the passage.
True: If the statement matches the information presented in the passage, then it is true. The statement must be completely true based on the information provided, without any additional information or qualifiers.
False: If the statement contradicts the information presented in the passage, then it is false. The statement must be completely false based on the information provided, without any additional information or qualifiers.
Not Given: If the information in the statement is not addressed in the passage, or if there is not enough information in the passage to determine the truth or falsity of the statement, then the answer is not given.
To successfully answer TFNG questions, test-takers must carefully read and analyze the passage, paying attention to details and nuances in the language. It is important to avoid making assumptions or jumping to conclusions based on personal knowledge or outside information. Instead, test-takers should rely solely on the information presented in the passage to determine the truth or falsity of each statement. With practice and careful attention to detail, test-takers can improve their skills in answering TFNG questions and achieve a high score on the IELTS Reading section.
